Pudra (Edit)

PUDRA

Pudra is an idiosyncratic serif typeface influenced by the contrast of sharp ski edges and soft powder snow — balancing precise cuts with natural round forms. Designed for legibility at text sizes, Pudra also includes unique details that distinguish it in larger headline sizes.

The name Pudra (Пудра), Russian for cosmetic powder, was chosen for its close phonetic resemblance to 'powder' rather than other Russian terms for powder snow (пухляк, пороша).

Crafted in 2014 at RISD (Rhode Island School of Design) under the guidance of Cyrus Highsmith of Occupant Fonts. Pudra takes influence from Value Serif by Benjamin Critton (2012) and GT Sectra by Grilli Type (2013).

While growing up on the East Coast in the 2000s, Alex (the designer) and his father made annual trips to Utah to ski the fresh powder of the Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons. They affectionately called the snow 'pudra' (пудра), Russian for cosmetic powder, finding it phonetically closer to 'powder' than other Russian terms for powder snow (пухляк, пороша).
